Gluten Free Bakery in Toronto
Wild Earth Cafe and Bakery opened in the very historic Toronto Beach neighbourhood in the summer of 2009. Husband and wife team, Brad and Nicole Owens, recognized a real need for a bakery that specialized in providing yummy baked goods for those with dietary restrictions. Brad has had a gluten intolerance for some time and always found it difficult to find places that he could enjoy a good meal or a snack without running the risk of severe abdominal pain. Over the years, Nicole developed a number of recipes ranging from sweets (cookies and squares) to nutritious breads that were 100% gluten-free but also tasted great. Both Nicole and Brad worked got tired of the corporate world and decided to make their dream of owning a gluten-free cafe a reality.
In addition to having a very wide range of gluten-free items, the bakery also offers many Vegan choices as well. Work is currently underway to develop a full line of sugar-free items. The first such item is a gluten-free, vegan and sugar free lemon tart that is made with Agave and Xylitol (a sugar substitute that is 100% natural and is derived from Birch trees). The bakery is also 100% nut-free so those with anaphylactic allergies are safe!
Wild Earth Cafe and bakery is open 7 days a week and is located at 2142 Queen Street East in Toronto. The TTC stops at the door and there is ample street parking. The cafe is very “Mom Friendly” and has change tables and high chairs and is also wheelchair and stroller accessible.
