Grilled Pears With Currants

INGREDIENTS

1/3 cup dried currants

¼ cup unsweetened apple juice

6 firm, ripe pears (Anjou work best)

4 tbs unsalted butter, melted

¼ tsp pepper

1 tbs olive oil for brushing while you grill

DIRECTIONS

Preheat your gas grill on high

In a small bowl, combine the currants, juice and pepper.

Set aside.

Peel the pears and slice them lengthwise in half.

Remove the cores.

Brush all over with melted butter.

Brush the grill with the olive oil.

Place pears in a single layer on the grill cut side up.

Cook long enough to get grill marks (about 3 minutes)

Brush with remaining butter and turn.

Grill another 3 or 4 minutes (tender but firm)

Serve warm with currant mixture spoon over top.

This makes a nice change to potatoes or rice.

Goes well with poultry or pork.
