I had to laugh, but it really isn’t funny!

Actually when you think about the repercussions, it is down right scary! I was talking to a lady in the grocery store lately, (I often engage strangers in conversation) This lady was carrying a large black bag that says Vegan is Life for All. I asked her where to find non-dairy, non-soy cheese, butter and yogurt substitutions.

She said that the soy substitutions are the best, and asked why I didn’t want them. I told her how I felt about Monsanto blah, blah, blah. She told me there is nothing wrong with Canadian soy products and that she only serves her family good quality, healthy foods. That statement caused me to fight a smirk.

A few minutes later, we happened to be in the same aisle by the canned soups etc. I was walking past and noticed that she had cream soups in her cart (There is that smirk again!)

Then she was looking at the canned veggies. She was reading the label on a can of green beans and remarked that there was a lot of salt. I answered with “And a pile of additives and preservatives” To that she said “ Oh they can only use natural stuff, it is all safe” Oh, oh! A giggle threatened to erupt!

I moved on to the gluten free aisle (Which, in my store is pretty lame) and was looking for certified oats. The same lady came around the corner and said “Oh, I should have realized that you are one of those gluten free nuts” She went on to tell me that she feeds her children whole wheat breads and pastas etc.

I smiled and said “You do know that you have soups with dairy and your bread and pasta most likely contain eggs – that is not vegan” And I went to check out.

So, it is funny to see someone so uninformed acting as though she is feeding her family a healthy, vegan, diet but sad and scary that she is feeding her family poison and believing she is doing a good thing!

I am sure I have mentioned it before, but it bears mentioning again. Dr. Rodney Ford (http://drrodneyford.com/) is on a mission to make the entire planet gluten free and I am on board, doing what I can.

For the sake of humans everywhere, let’s help make this a “Gluten Free Planet”!  You can find a group called “Gluten Free Planet” on facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/100433633347630/  )

That is my rant for the day!

  1. Jayne,
I love your blog! Just found it today and I have to say that you and I could be good friends 😀 I’ve been doing a lot of the things you write about here and since I’m a newly diagnosed gluten allergic, I look forward to reading all the stuff you’ve posted and learning from them. Thanks for doing this blog, friend, you’re awesome 😀
